Prayer & Fasting

Those who engage in fasting and prayer are Divine agents of reset. They position themselves as prayer warriors in order for God’s will to be done on Earth as in Heaven. Jesus Christ our Lord, the first apostles, and the early church are all examples of this truth.

In the Old and New Testaments of the Scriptures, and in the recorded history of the Church, there are several accounts of individuals and groups of people who sought the help of Almighty God through a time of prayer with fasting. Our generation must do the same.

One such example is Nehemiah a senior civil servant of Jewish ancestry who served king Artaxerxes of the first Persian Empire. When he heard of the sad state of affairs in Judah, how the walls of Jerusalem were broken down, and that the people were in despair, we are told that he “sat down and wept for many days with fasting and prayer before the God of Heaven.” Nehemiah went on thereafter anointed by God, and favored by the king to lead the rebuilding of Jerusalem. Read the book of Nehemiah.

I write to encourage you today to consider participating in the fast. The Lord wants us to join our voices together in calling upon Him. History has several stories of people like you and me who have sought the Lord’s face in times of distress and how He came through for them. Our generation is not immune as it were to the onslaught of the wiles of satan. While we may not be in distress in our personal situations, Christians are called to pray as their primary assignment during our sojourn on Earth.

In fact, Jesus said in Matthew 17:21 that there are certain evil spirits that cause problems for people that will not leave without prayer and fasting. Is it any wonder that Christ Himself upon the commencement of His earthly ministry took on a 40-day prayer and fasting exercise? We see that He was led by the Spirit into the wilderness and later we see that He returned in the POWER of the Spirit.

If you feel that tug on your heart, it is very likely that the Lord is saying “get involved,” “don’t sit on the sidelines.” Friends the world needs people who will fast and pray for the will of God to come to pass in their lives and for God’s purpose to be fulfilled on Earth. You may choose to fast until Noon, 3 pm, or even the whole day until 6 pm. Do what you are given grace for. It is indeed a life-changing experience for everyone who so chooses to take up their cross and follow Jesus.

Right after New Year’s, a schedule for how we will be praying with a blend of in-person, and online gatherings and special groupings will be published. We are asking those interested to register regardless of how many days you feel called to participate. This way we only send further communications for daily devotionals to those who are registered. Many blessings and may the Lord bless you as you seek to grow in grace and the knowledge of Jesus Christ. For helpful guidelines go here.
