Day 12

Divine Patterns III

We have been exploring the idea of Divine Patterns and Rhythms as something that is in the character of our God. Creation and the order of nature prove this.

“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night
will never cease.”

Genesis 8:22 NKJV

Monday never hops over Tuesday to become Wednesday. The seasons come and go rhythmically. It is, therefore, conscionable to consider the possibility that humans were created to align with Divine patterns and rhythms. We talked in Part I about the worship instituted by Moses as directed by the Lord in the Tabernacle of Meeting and Part II about how the Lord can reveal to us as individual Christ-followers His custom design for our lives.

The question is why this is not the case for many believers. We tend to follow general observances, attend church services, pray as occasion demands, give our money, volunteer for mission trips and somehow remain stuck in a place and time where the Lord seems far off. Jesus wants a close personal relationship with each one of us in His Church. For this reason, He advocates individual and congregational patterns and rhythms for a clean-up, rest, and refresh. See what Jesus instructs His disciples to do as a group after a busy outing:

Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught. 31 And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. 32 So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.

Mark 6:30-32 NKJV

A Deep Clean Refreshing and Rest

The Spirit of God is an expert at spot cleaning but desires to do a deep clean in our lives and into our spirit. A deep clean is possible if we submit to Him and say “God I am all yours, let your will be done in me.”

Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

2 Corinthians 7:1 NKJV

Did you know that God in His perfect design ensured that your spirit serves as his candle? There are things deep in our spirit we may not even be aware of and that is why the Scriptures say:

The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the inner depths of his heart.

Proverbs 20:20 NKJV

You are a spirit being, and so the Holy Spirit works in and on your spirit to effect change. The Prophet Jeremiah also had something to say about the heart (our core or inner man):

“The heart is deceitful above all things And desperately wicked; Who can know it?
I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways,
According to the fruit of his doings.”

Come for a deep clean!

The Good News

That which may be hidden in our spirit looking to trip us up by manifesting in the flesh must submit when we submit to the powerful workings of the word of God.

12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Hebrews 4:12-13 NKJV

The Lord is ready to do a work and what He will do in me and you depends on how we regard His word.

Thus says the Lord:

“Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool.
Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest?
For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist,” Says the Lord.
“But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit,
And who trembles at My word.

Isaiah 66:2 NKJV

Brothers and sisters, we must make regular appointments with the Surgeon of Heaven. He has all the spiritual tools needed to make us what He desires us to be. He will root out pride, selfishness, low self-esteem, etc. Let us have a habit of returning to rest in Him. See Isaiah 30:15
