Day 18

We Need Jesus

Can We Just Sit Down?

What God has to say to us is far more important than what we want to tell Him. What He wants to do in me is far more valuable than what He will do through me. What He will do in and through you begins with what He has to say. We must remember that we are vessels and it is no small matter that we have His Spirit indwelling us by faith in His Son Jesus Christ

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.

Psalm 19:7-11 NKJV

Just before Jesus blessed and multiplied the 2 fish and 5 loaves to feed the multitude in John Chapter 6, He instructed that the over 5,000 people should be made to sit down. Naturally speaking it makes perfect sense to have everyone sit down and have the meal distributed in an orderly manner. You don’t want hungry people trampling on one another just to get a sandwich right?

Then Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11 And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, “Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost.”

John 6:10-12 NKJV

In a spiritual sense, we can see and learn that it takes a conscious effort to sit down and get the Bread of Heaven served to us. And guess what? Just as they got as much as needed sitting down and more we will get our fill of the Bread Who came down from Heaven.

Christ Be Formed

The ultimate purpose of God is that Christ be formed in you and me. See Galatians 4:19. Adam was a son of God. See Luke 3:38.The Lord God formed Him out of the dust of the earth, breathed into him and he became a living soul with the capacity to reason and make decisions. If we never learn to sit at the feet of Jesus, seeing and knowing Him as the All-Knowing One, The Blessed Christ, The Christ of God by Whom The Spirit was given Christ will not be formed in us.

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV

Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.

1 John 3:2-4 NLT

During this fasting prayer season, what is the Lord doing in you? Can you say for certain that there are marked changes? While we have many pressing material needs we must pay attention to our spiritual needs as well.

Be Like Mrs. Manoah and Mary, Martha’s Sister

These two women understood the value of sitting at the feet of the Lord. The Lord worked in them and then worked through them. We first come in contact with the Manoah family in Judges 5. They were the parents of Samson a Judge of Israel. Before Samson’s conception and birth, an angel visited his mother while she was “sitting in the field.

Then Manoah prayed to the Lord, and said, “O my Lord, please let the Man of God whom You sent come to us again and teach us what we shall do for the child who will be born.”

And God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the Angel of God came to the woman again as she was sitting in the field; but Manoah her husband was not with her10 Then the woman ran in haste and told her husband, and said to him, “Look, the Man who came to me the other day has just now appeared to me!”

11 So Manoah arose and followed his wife. When he came to the Man, he said to Him, “Are You the Man who spoke to this woman?”

Judges 13:8-11 NKJV

38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.

Luke 10:38-39 NKJV

If we learn to sit at His feet in the field (at work), at home, and anywhere we find ourselves we will be safe and sound in faith always knowing what the will of God is.
