The King’s Reset Day 14: A Special People for Praise

Welcome to Day 14. Fasting humbles our souls and positions us for a lasting spiritual work first on our insides. God is keen on working on our spirit man first because whatever is going on in our spirit reflects on the outside.

Yesterday we talked about being a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation unto the Lord. The purpose of these distinct conferments as we see in the anchor scripture is for proclaiming His praises.

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

1 Peter 2:9-10 NKJV

Make sure to praise God with all your energy among the congregation of God’s people today. Be present in the assembly. Lift up your voice in singing. Offer to our God the sacrifice of praise. I pray that an attitude of praise accompanies you everywhere.

Proclaiming Praise is Powerful |

One of God’s recipes for touching lives is the proclaiming (showing) of His praise.

So how do we show His praises? Many people think praising God stops at singing. On the contrary, praise is much more than singing. We can praise God with our words without musical instruments.

When I was in elementary school I remember how we would all gather as kids during recess and talk about what our dads had accomplished. There would be boasting about a new car or a new TV and all sorts of mundane things. I recall when color TVs first came out and we still had our old black-and-white TV while some others already graduated to color. The kids with color TVs let us know all day about how different and amazing having color was.

We are to in a sense brag about our Heavenly Father with the things He does in our lives. Is He showing up for you in your marriage? Brag on that. Is He helping you through an illness or something that others who have no relationship with God would gripe and whine about? Well, let the world know. The interesting thing is that these opportunities come to us every day and sometimes in the most unusual of places.

Lord, how long will You look on? Rescue me from their destructions,
My precious life from the lions. I will give You thanks in the great assembly;
I will praise You among many people.

Psalm 35:17-18 NKJV

I remember growing up in Nigeria and through the years, giving praise to God through words of testimony were a regular feature. People who had real-life problems where they needed God to intervene would share how God had worked in their lives. Some of these moments were quite riveting and as a result, many people come to real faith in Christ. People think for themselves “well if God can do that for her, then He can do so for me as well.”

Praise Executes Judgement |

Praise also executes the written judgment against God’s enemies. God is patient but there are times when He runs out of patience and the Bible tells us that the High Praises of God are a two-edged sword in the hand of those He has chosen to praise Him.

Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, And a two-edged sword in their hand,
To execute vengeance on the nations, And punishments on the peoples;
To bind their kings with chains, And their nobles with fetters of iron;
To execute on them the written judgment— This honor have all His saints.

Psalm 149:6-9 NKJV

Proclaiming God’s praise with trumpets (instruments of praise) brought Jericho’s walls down. The same thing happened with King Jehoshaphat against a powerful alliance. The King led by the word of the Lord appointed singers to march in front of the army of Israel. The Lord came down in the midst of their praise and routed the enemy divisions. See 2 Chronicles 20.

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying:

“Praise the Lord,
For His mercy endures forever.”

22 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.

2 Chronicles 20:21-22 NKJV

The reason why praise is powerful and why it is a two-edged sword for the delivery of judgment is that according to David the psalmist, God is enthroned in the praise of His people. Think of it this way. As we praise God, His presence fills the room and our hearts as well. This is a distinct feature of praise among Christians that nonbelievers are unable to replicate. Our God is real and praise causes His presence to be tangible in a sense among us. See Psalm 22:3.

indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying:

For He is good,
For His mercy endures forever,”

that the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.

2 Chronicles 5:13-14 NKJV

May our voices in praise bring God’s tangible presence into our midst and may our praise become instruments of spiritual warfare to rout the enemy and deliver judgment where he wills in Jesus’ name. Amen!

Prayer Session: “A Special People for Praise”

Please use the worship song link and Scripture verses provided if you would like as fuel for a quality time of prayer.

  1. Read Psalm 149. Praise God with your own words and begin to decree judgment against the enemies of His people. God knows when it is time and will bring judgment. But we have to store up the prayers.
  2. Psalm 22:3 Declare that His presence will be real to you every time you praise Him in word and in song.
  3. Pray that as God shows forth His hand of judgment where required many come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour
  4. Dedicate yourself and your home as a place of praise for a special people (your family as applicable)
  5. End the session with thanksgiving and praise to the God who hears and answers our prayer.
