Day 7

The Higher Ground Family

Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

Ephesians 2:19-22

While He was still talking to the multitudes, behold, His mother and brothers stood outside, seeking to speak with Him. 47 Then one said to Him, “Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You.”
48 But He answered and said to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” 49 And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers! 50 For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”

Matthew 12:46-50

God said it was not good for Adam to be alone so He made Eve and from then on the concept of natural family on earth was created. Adam and Eve had children and on and on. Today there are over 7 billion people on the planet not counting all the dead in years gone.

The church is God’s (spiritual) family on earth and those who come to faith through Jesus are considered brothers and sisters in Christ together in God’s household. Just as we have responsibility in our natural family both immediate and extended, we have a responsibility to participate in our spiritual family as well. God’s family is represented by the local church everywhere she exists, gathers and functions. The Church is a city set on a hill. It is therefore on Higher Ground and must continue to grow.

Because no human being is perfect the church is not perfect. However we serve the Perfect One who is working in us toward perfection. A good church whether it is small, medium or large sized must be a place where children, youth, young adults, men and women operate together as a family. It must be a place of fellowship among the like minded, where the prophetic scripture is preached to bring spiritual enlightenment and encouragement to spur people to good works. It must be a place where the reading of scripture and the public practice of prayer in its varied forms are held forward as priority. It must become a place where miracles in Jesus name are common place.

Let us pray for our Church today. Join me in declaring it a “Church on Higher Ground.”
