Day 4: Saved From Satan

We are saved and kept by the power of God from the ravages of the evil one satan himself.

The enemy is jealous of human beings and would not hesitate to have a go at anyone to ridicule, destroy and kill if it were possible for him to do so. His jealousy stems from the intended purpose for which God created us. We were created for fellowship with the Almighty God. The Bible makes it abundantly clear what his mandate is and it is to steal, kill and destroy. He is busy working hard to ensure the downfall of every individual believer.

“Be sober be vigilant because your adversary the devil walks about like a raoaring lion seeking whom he may devour”

1 Peter 5:8 NKJV

Knowing that we have such an enemy a spirit being who hates us so much can be a source of concern but this should not be the case because the scriptures make it abundantly clear to us that the enemy can actually flee from us. The conditions only have to be right. The more yielded we are to God, the less the enemy is able to manipulate us in any way with temptations or accusations of any sort.

“Submit to God resist the devil and he will flee from you”

James 4:7

Christians (followers of Jesus) are the only ones on the planet who have been given any sort of power against this being. We are saved from him and empowered against him. Jesus made it clear to His disciples and to all who would follow Him that we have been given power over the enemy and His minions. It is one thing to read that from pages of scripture and yet another to appropriate the victory that Jesus won and enforce it. This power is delegated authority given to us by Jesus Christ. We are not to go around looking for the devil and his minions. In fact, they will come at you as it is their stock in trade to attempt to frustrate the work of God in our lives.

There is a scripture verse that I love so much from Deuteronomy. Moses was talking to the children of Israel about their covenant rights and how God would show up to defend them. In Deuteronomy 28:7 he says “The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.” While this was speaking about the people that God was driving out of the land we must remember that the scriptures are first and foremost a spiritual message. In the same manner, the enemy will come in one way against us but flee in seven ways. The terror of the Lord our God will be upon them for our deliverance and victory.

In the book of Acts Philip had gone down to Samaria to preach Christ to the people there. The Bible records that while Philip preached, this is what happened:

“And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed.”

Acts 8:6-7 NKJV

There are many Christians who have never learned how to address the enemy by faith. And as a result, satan takes advantage of them from time to time. The Bible says we are not to be ignorant of his devices lest he gets some advantage over us. Think about it for a moment. The Bible says to “resist the devil.” How do we do that? One way to resist the devil is to use words laced with scripture to speak the word of authority in Jesus’ name against the workers and works of darkness.

Declaration

Let us declare these words together:

Father, I thank you for the power that is in your word. I thank you for the victory you have wrought for me through Jesus Christ. Today I take the authority given to me in the name of your Son Jesus Christ, the Name that is above every other name and I resist the enemy’s plans. I resist steadfast in faith claiming victory in every sphere. You have made me more than a conqueror. I believe it and I receive it in Jesus’ name.
