Day 10 – Prayer & Fasting

Follow Jesus: He’s Worthy Of Worship

27 “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. 28 For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ 29 And since this is true, we shouldn’t think of God as an idol designed by craftsmen from gold or silver or stone. 30 “God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him.

Acts 17:27-30 NLT

8 Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. 9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.

Colossians 2:8-10

11 Then I looked again, and I heard the voices of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and of the living beings and the elders. 12 And they sang in a mighty chorus:“Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered—to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.” 13 And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang: “Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.” 14 And the four living beings said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped the Lamb.

Revelation 5:11-14 NLT

It would appear that many limit what it means to worship Jesus to singing songs accompanied by a musical ensemble. The truth though is that musical worship is just part of a whole. Merriam Webster Dictionary defines worship as “to honour or show reverence for a divine being or supernatural power.” It can also be used in the same sense as “having regard with great or extravagant respect, honour or devotion for another.” The latter is what we see in celebrity worship today. To worship Jesus in the real sense of the term encompasses honouring Him through our speech, vocation, our walk, what we do with our money, how we treat others, spiritual growth, singing and so on. Musical worship as stated earlier, though very important is one form of expressing worship.

Jesus Christ is The Blessed Potentate! Isaiah the 8th century prophet revealed the names of the baby to be born as “…Wonderful Counsellor, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace…” Our worship is reserved for God alone through Jesus Christ and no one or nothing else. If we get anything wrong at all, we can right every thing if we get who we worship right. When we begin to worship Jesus with all of our lives and not holding back, everything else begins to align. Paul the apostle puts it this way:

1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Romans 12:1-2 NLT

I will Follow Jesus because He is the One Whom Heaven approves. He is worthy of all our worship. The angelic hosts of Heaven worship Him. Let us join the angels and all of Heaven in worship of the One Who is worthy, Jesus Christ The King of kings and Lord of lords!
