Grace: The Ability for Humans to Obey

Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife,

Matthew 1:24

We are naturally inclined to disobey and walk away from God. Considering the context of Joseph’s world, here was his fiance found with child in a very conservative Jewish setting. Joseph obeyed the Lord’s instruction when he woke up. Without delay he proceeded to Mary’s relatives and sealed the deal by taking her as his wife. Being able to obey in the face of possible ridicule from friends and others around is a product of Divine Grace.
