I have a revelation on the power of favour and I believe amongst other things that Divine favour is the currency of the believer. Favour can bring you what a lifetime of labour will not. If Jesus needed to grow in favour with God and man, then I need to grow in favour with God and man as well. Throughout scripture, we see the theme of favour recurring. Noah found grace (favour) with God and went on to build the Ark and preserve a generation of humans and animals from the flood. Here is what I believe has been my problem many a time: I haven’t prayed for favour as much as I should. I think every believer should be asking for favour as a rule in prayer. Something to the effect of “Dear Lord, Jesus, grant me your favour today.” How difficult is that? Do you often pray for favour in and over your life, or do you wait or realise the need when you are in a difficult place? It appears most people are that way. Am I right? Do you resonate with what I am saying? I have taught on favour and pray for favour, but I need to do more; we need to pray for favour regularly.
Esther was a young Jewish orphaned woman raised by her cousin Mordecai in Persia when Vashti was dethroned as Queen. A beauty pageant was established by Memucan, the royal advisor, to find a new Queen. Mordecai signed Esther up and she was chosen to be Queen by the favour of the Lord upon her. She first found favour before Hegai, who was in charge of preparing the women for the pageant.
“So it was, when the king’s command and decree were heard, and when many young women were gathered at Shushan the citadel, under the custody of Hegai, that Esther also was taken to the king’s palace, into the care of Hegai the custodian of the women. 9 Now the young woman pleased him, and she obtained his favor; so he readily gave beauty preparations to her, besides her allowance. Then seven choice maidservants were provided for her from the king’s palace, and he moved her and her maidservants to the best place in the house of the women.” Esther 2:8-9 NKJV
She then found favour (grew in favour) before the Emperor King Ahasuerus himself.
“Now when the turn came for Esther the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her as his daughter, to go in to the king, she requested nothing but what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the custodian of the women, advised. And Esther obtained favor in the sight of all who saw her. 16 So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus, into his royal palace, in the tenth month, which is the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign. 17 The king loved Esther more than all the other women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins; so he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. 18 Then the king made a great feast, the Feast of Esther, for all his officials and servants; and he proclaimed a holiday in the provinces and gave gifts according to the generosity of a king.” Esther 2:15-18 NKJV
When Haman a high ranking official plotted to destroy all the Jews in the Kingdom by an edict he manipulated the king for, Esther on the prompting of her cousin Mordecai, took a risk and called a 3 day dry fast and went into the poresence of Ahasuerus uninvited. Back then an action like that- appearing in the presence of an Emperor of the Medes and Persia was a death sentence. Her famous statement was “If I perish, I perish.” The favour needed here was more than anything she would have ever needed. Again she found favour (grew some more in favour) in his sight.
“So it was, when the king saw Queen Esther standing in the court, that she found favor in his sight, and the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. Then Esther went near and touched the top of the scepter. 3 And the king said to her, “What do you wish, Queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given to you—up to half the kingdom!”
The story ends with Esther becoming a deliverer of her people. Haman went on to be hanged on the very gallows he made for Mordecai.
