Day 2: Jesus Is The Door And King of All Doors!

Jesus’ words in John 10:9a “I Am The Door…” have stayed with me for the past week or so as I have begun to reflect more on what doors really do. A door is a permanent fixture in a home. We have a front door, a side door, and interior doors within the house, leading to areas such as the laundry room, storage room, and bedrooms. A foundational instruction for receiving the meat of scripture is the labour of meditation. As we meditate on the word, the Spirit can illuminate and take us to unimaginable places and depths of understanding. More than that, we can hear the Lord speak on any subject. What He has to say on anything is worth more than gold.

But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 NKJV

Let’s think about the phrase “I am The Door” a little deeper. First, a door (The Front Door) is a permanent fixture in a house; the same applies to other doors within the home. I found it fascinating that Christ would say He is the Door and that, by Him, I “can go in and out and find pasture.” When you think of the word pasture, sheep, goats, cattle, and so forth come to mind. Scripture says, “We are the sheep of His pasture.” I am reminded of what we must eat to survive, to thrive, to be healthy. A good Shepherd will ensure that his animals find good pasture and provide them with good food, so that they can produce good milk, good meat, and, of course, healthy animals.

Jesus describes Himself as several things. It’s easier for me to relate to Him as Shepherd than it is for me to relate to him as The Door. But with a little bit of thinking, the door really begins to make sense. Back to a door being a permanent fixture of a home, let’s imagine that there’s a race of beings from another planet, and we call this race DOORS, and they had their own language, called Doorish, just like English, or Doorian, just like Russian, or Doorese, just like Chinese. I want to say that such an alien race would have a leader, a king or president, a Prime Minister, who will be called the King of The Doors. I would therefore assume that Jesus could be the King of Doors, since He is King of kings and Lord of lords. He holds the title of the king of doors, and no one could speak Doorish, Doorian, or Doorese languages like himself. Now you see what I’m seeing: as the door, He can talk to every supernatural door; He can open and close any door. It goes to show that he can open a door, and no one can shut it because he’s the King of Doors. He is The Door, not just a door. He has all authority as King of all doors.

Several years ago, a Bishop recounted that he had been praying for his ministry to grow, as they had faced significant opposition. One day, while in prayer, the Lord opened his eyes and he saw a dark, thick cloud hovering over the church’s meeting place. Upon seeing this, he was instructed to pray against this cloud. As he began to pray, he observed the cloud curl up like a blanket and disappear. And from that day forward, the work of the Lord started to grow and explode unabated. Who would have known there was such a targeted demonic apparition warring against the church and eclipsing growth? It was sitting there speaking the language of its witchcraft over the church. However, that day, the Lord shut the door against that dark cloud. As His servant prayed in obedience, He moved mightily. The church prospered significantly thereafter!

“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, ‘These things says He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”: “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.” Revelation 3:7-8 NKJV
