Welcome to the year 2026. We trust in the Lord our God to lead us in the paths of righteousness and to give us grace to live in His will, even as the days grow darker on the earth. We have an assurance that He will be with us, and He provides grace for us to rise and shine brighter than the darkness around.
Paul wrote these words to the Corinthian brethren:
“For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.” 1 Cor. 16:9
He said this with the understanding that the Lord opens the door to ministry. We will talk about the other part: ADVERSARIES during our week of prayer. Hear Luke when he reports to the council in Jerusalem on Paul and Barnabas’ exploits:
“Now when they had come and gathered the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.” Acts 14:29
The Lord said to the Church in Philadelphia,
“I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.” Rev. 3:8
Jesus said, “I am the Door.” Doors are essential because they provide a secure access or exit point for a building. When the Lord, the Greatest Teacher of all time, uses the physical items we use every day to define Himself, He intends to help us understand them more easily as we reflect on these things. Who does not use several doors every day? It all starts when I wake up. I exit my room through the bedroom door, exit my home through the garage door, and access my car through the driver’s door. If my wife is coming with me, she would enter by the front passenger door. I could go on and on with the doors we encounter at the gym, store, church, work, and school. Doors are probably one of the most taken-for-granted things in our lives. Jesus said:
“I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” Jn. 10:9
The word pasture applies to general sustenance and well-being. Jesus Christ, The Door is more than sufficient.
As we begin 7 days of fasting with prayer on Monday, the 5th, we will examine the Great Door in the Person of Christ. He promises that we will go in and out through Him and find pasture. May this one be for us all a great week of discovery in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen!
