2020 : Follow Jesus
18 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 19 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 20 And they left their nets at once and followed him. 21 A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. 22 They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind.

At the time that Jesus began His public ministry, one of the very first set of words recorded right after He left the wilderness after enduring a 40 day fast and relentless badgering by the the devil’s temptations, were the words “follow me…” As we learn from the scriptures, Jesus was speaking to Peter, Andrew, James and John who were all employed in the fishing industry. The scriptures record that they left their nets immediately and followed Him.
These men became the very first among other disciples who went on to provide leadership for the early Church. Thousands of years later many are still being called to “Follow Jesus” everyday such that over 2.4 billion people today express faith in Jesus the Christ as Saviour. Like these very first disciples who “immediately” left their nets and followed Jesus our response to the instructions of the Lord and requirements of us is to be immediate or should I say without reservation.
This year may we grow to the point where following Jesus in doing what He demands is non negotiable.
Prayer Points
- Praise the Lord for the year 2020. You made it!!! Ask for grace to “Follow Jesus” this year more than ever.
- Pray against the power of distractions such as temptations, difficulties, personal struggles or sin from “Following Jesus”
- Pray for Christian families to be strong in faith in these times and for non christian families searching to find and “Follow Jesus.” Pray that you become a magnet
- Pray for our Church JFC to “Follow Jesus” as a spiritual family under God this year.
- Declare out loud over Joy Fountain that 2020 is the year for you to “Follow Jesus” and do what He wants. Your declaration is powerful!!!
- Give thanks and praise to God knowing that your prayers have been heard.
